How to Inflate and Deflate Your Paddle Board

Inflating a paddleboard is an easy task if you know what you are doing. It is important to learn how to inflate your paddleboard (SUP) before heading to the beach. Not only will it save you time and get you on the water quickly, but you'll start tackling with confidence. Many different brands make inflatable paddle surfboards, but they are very similar in the way they inflate. There are a few things to consider before inflating your board, as these are the most common problems people encounter when inflating their SUP.

People tend to inflate the boards too much. For whatever reason, they can't get their boards to exert up to 15 pounds per square inch (PSI) of pressure. This can cause your table to malfunction and even bend in a way that it shouldn't.

An easy way to tell if your board is properly inflated without a pressure gauge is to stand on it in the water. If it feels soft, as your feet are sinking into the board, it is probably not inflated to where it should be.

Each inflatable board must come with a pump that has been specially designed for that board. This pump should also have a pressure gauge that will indicate when your board has been fully inflated.

Keep in mind that if you inflated your board in the morning and it stays in the sun all day, the pressure may change. The heat from the sun and sand can increase pressure. But when you take it into the colder water, the pressure can drop and make it appear deflated. If this happens, you may need to give it a few more pumps of air to keep it at the proper PSI.

It is recommended to clean it with fresh water after use. Especially if you are going to deflate it, fold it, and store it. Once clean, and before putting it in the bag, we recommend waiting for it to dry. SUPs, like surfboards, should not be exposed for long periods in the sun while they are dry and deflated.

Electric pumps eliminate the main problem that many people find with inflatable boards. These automatic pumps make inflating the board a quick and comfortable process, which will not take you more than 5 or 6 minutes (depending on the pressure we need).

Today, we can find very crafty portable electric inflators on the market. They usually come with their transport bag or cover so that we can take them comfortably anywhere we need to inflate our paddle surfboard.
